The nutmeg we know as a condiment is found inside the valves of the fruit of the tree, and consists of a small brown nut, with a strong and pleasant aroma, which is usually grated or ground before use.

Good quality, whole, unprocessed nutmegs are very dark in colour. The high percentage of oils may cause a lighter coating with dark spots to form, but this only means that it is a natural product.
