Shallots are edible bulbs that belong to the Liliaceae family, but have specific properties and a unique flavor.

They look like elongated scallions but are larger than an average garlic. The color of its shell is almost always salmon or reddish and its interior, translucent and barely perceptible pale pink. In smell they are very similar to white garlic, they are milder than onions and in the mouth they are perceived with sweet, sour and spicy notes. They also grow as heads composed of several pieces.

They are antioxidants, so they are helpful in the process of reducing free radical damage and aging, and they are good for heart health: they help protect the cardiovascular system and control cholesterol levels.
